Lewis Carroll (1832-1898)
Charles Lutwidge Dodgson was born in Daresbury, Cheshire in 1832. He is the author of the world wide famous tale Alice’s Adventure in Wonderland. He used the pseudonym Lewis Carroll and was best known for his written work under this name. Not only was Dodgson a writer, he had many talents including a mathematical lecturer at Oxford University.
One of his talents was photography. He used to take photographs of a young girl named Alice Pleasance Liddell who was the inspiration behind the story, Alice’s Adventure in Wonderland. Alice and her sisters would go on boat rides with Dodgson and he would entertain the children with fantastic stories, thankfully Alice asked him to write down the stories. A friend of Dodgson’s, George MacDonald just so happened to be a children’s author, encouraged him to publish his amazing story. It eventually became a success and has been cherished by many readers worldwide ever since.
